Rockford, Illinois – Registration is underway for the fall semester in a new certificate program in public health practice being offered at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford. During National Public Health Week, the College of Medicine will be hosting an Open House to introduce the community to public health issues and the certificate program.
The Open House and informational program will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at 4:30 p.m. in the lobby at the College of Medicine, 1601 Parkview Avenue.
Michael Glasser, PhD, associate dean for rural health professions, will talk about National Public Health Week and the National Center for Rural Health Professions. Prospective students can learn about the Public Health Practice Certificate program offered at the Rockford campus. This program is a 16-hour program of study that consists of five graduate level courses in concepts essential to public health practice. Certificate coursework may be transferable to a degree program at the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health or to other schools of public health.
The certificate program is most useful for members of the public health workforce who seek more education and training in public health, those who practice in a healthcare field who would like more knowledge of the public health system but may not want a full master’s degree curriculum, or those who wish to enhance their knowledge of core public health concepts.
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited university is the minimum requirement for admission to the Public Health Practice Campus Certificate at Rockford. Application to the University of Illinois at Chicago is required for admission to the certificate program. A Graduate Record Examination (GRE) test is not required.
