2009 Craig Fellowships
The University of Illinois at Chicago has announced the Craig Summer Fellowship Program for 2009.
Funding has been confirmed for three positions on the Rockford campus. The deadline for faculty proposals is Friday, April 17, 2009. These will then be forwarded to the Rockford Class of 2012 who are currently completing their M1 year in Urbana, and students will then apply to participate in specific projects. If more than one student applies for a project, the faculty member, with the assistance of the Office of Medical Education and Evaluation, will choose which student will be accepted into the program.
The Summer Fellow Program is primarily for incoming M2 students who are interested in conducting research under the guidance of a faculty member. The students will be available from June 1 through August 7, 2009, for 16.67 hours per week, and will be compensated for the summer.
Acknowledging that the research may be difficult to complete within this time frame, any time commitment beyond the compensated time should be discussed and negotiated between the student applicant and the researcher. The position is jointly funded by the College of Medicine Office of the Dean, UIC, and the Office of the Regional Dean, COM-R, and the students are hired as Research Assistants. All faculty are eligible to submit proposals. As the number of fellowship opportunities is limited, the positions are competitive.
MD/PhD students are not eligible to apply for this program. Students who fail courses and who require make-up exams are not eligible. A student may participate in only one summer fellowship program. They must be active students and not on a leave of absence.
Please review the attached application form and return your research project proposal it to the Office of Medical Education and Evaluation by Friday, April 17, 2009. Submissions should be made electronically to facilitate review. Please include your application as a Word attachment and send to margem@uic.edu.
