Crawford Library Open House and Book Signing

Rockford, Illinois – Crawford Library of the Health Sciences, on the campus of the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford, will be recognizing the expansion of their Consumer Health collection at an Open House on Thursday, March 26, 2009.

This enhanced consumer collection provides resources for members of the community who have no medical training. In addition to a patient-oriented selection of books, access to many health-related electronic databases is available. Trained librarians are available to assist in locating print materials, as well as providing Internet access to these databases, such as MEDLINEPlus.

“Our library has the largest collection of health-based, consumer-friendly books and data services in northern Illinois,” said Ellen Schellhause, head librarian for Crawford Library.

“We often see people come into our library after they’ve been to their doctor and want more information regarding their diagnosis,” Schellhause said. “While we are here to help in those more stressful situations, we also want people to know that we have books, journals and online resources that will address their wellness issues too.”

If you would like to learn more about the Crawford Library of the Health Sciences, you may attend an Open House on at the College of Medicine at Rockford, 1601 Parkview Ave., Thursday, March 26, 2009 from 3 – 6 p.m. Librarians will be there to answer your questions, and introduce you to the facilities in the Library. Refreshments will be served.
