Rockford, IL - Vivek S. Kantayya, MD, FAAFP, has been appointed interim head of the department of family and community medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford. Kantayya also serves as a family physician at the University Primary Care Clinic in Mt. Morris and as an assistant professor of clinical family medicine. He delivers compassionate, high quality medical care to patients and enjoys modeling that practice to medical students.
Prior to joining the College of Medicine, he served as the medical director and chairman of the department of women’s health services at Crusader Clinic. He has also worked as the interim medical director and head of maternity section for the E.C.W.A. Hospital in Nigeria. A graduate of Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University in Chicago, Kantayya completed an internship in family medicine at Cook County Hospital and did his residency at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Rockford.
The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford has served the area since 1971 as a regional academic health science center. The University clinics are located in Mt. Morris, Belvidere, Rockton and Rockford.
