Summer Medical Research Training Program (SMaRT)
College students who have significant interest in medicine or medical research have the opportunity to participate in a summer medical research training program offered by the department of biomedical sciences at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford.
Each summer selected students complete a two-month research internship in the department of biomedical sciences laboratories. Students will gain significant experience in planning and executing a research project, and also learn cutting-edge techniques and their application to medical sciences. At the conclusion of the program, there will be a SMaRT Scientific Forum where the students must present their scientific data as both a poster and oral presentation.
This program is funded by a grant from the Dr. Louis and Violet Rubin fund from the Northern Illinois Community Foundation.
SMaRT is a highly competitive program. Students are selected for their academic merit, a personal interview and their interest in pursuing a career in medical science or a related field.
