Puri awarded cancer study grant

Rockford, IL - University of Illinois at Chicago’s Cancer Center director, Dr. Gary D. Kruh, has announced that 10 pilot project grant applications will be funded in their first Cancer Center pilot grant program cycle. Neelu Puri, assistant professor in the biomedical science department at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford, submitted a pilot project entitled “c-Met:  A Potentially New Therapeutic Target for Treatment of Human Melanoma.” Her project has been reviewed and approved.
 
A total of 35 applications were submitted.  Forty-five faculty members participated in the review process. The Cancer Center program leadership team made final funding decisions. Each of the 10 projects will be awarded at the level of $25,000.
 
The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford has served the Rockford area since 1971 and provides university level care at its clinics which are located in Rockford, Rockton, Belvidere and Mt. Morris.
