New Head of Family and Community Medicine

Joseph P. Garry, MD, FAAFP, FACSM

The University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford welcomes Joseph P. Garry, MD, FAAFP, FACSM, as visiting professor of clinical family medicine and interim head of the Department of Family and Community Medicine. He will start April 1.

Dr. Garry most recently was an associate professor in the University of Minnesota Department of Family Medicine and Community Health, where he’s also been a practicing physician since 2009. He also served as medical director of the Sports Medicine Clinic there for several years. Prior to that, he had served as medical director of East Carolina University’s Physical Activity & Nutrition Clinic, Sports Medicine Fellowship director and as an attending physician at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

A graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Medicine, Dr. Garry completed a residency in family medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles Center for Health Sciences. He also completed a fellowship in sports medicine at Thomas Jefferson University. In addition, Dr. Garry completed fellowships in faculty development and leadership in academic medicine.
