Rockford, Illinois – The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford hosted its 13th Annual Research Day on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 in College lobby and auditorium.

Research Day provides an opportunity for medical and graduate students, faculty and local health professionals to present their research to their peers and the community through poster displays and presentations.

“Research Day is a very exciting time at our campus,” said Martin Lipsky, MD, regional dean at the College. “This event gives the College an opportunity to highlight the variety of research being conducted here, much of which is unknown to the Rockford community.”

This year’s keynote address was given by Robert Rosenson, MD, director of lipoprotein disorders and clinical atherosclerosis research for the department of internal medicine at the University of Michigan Health System. Rosenson is a Rockford native.

“We are very fortunate to have such a renowned industry leader like Dr. Rosenson come to our campus as a guest speaker. And, the fact that he is from the Rockford community made it even more special,” said Lipsky.

During the morning, participants displayed their research projects in the lobby for guests to view and ask questions. Each display was judged during this period for awards handed out later in the day. After the keynote address in the afternoon, four presentations were made by students based on their research. Topics presented included: “Pregnancy associated with breast cancer: significance of early detection,” and “Rural and urban patient satisfaction with office visit communication at family practice residency program clinics.”
