M4 students celebrate after they learn their match results

March 20, 2008

Rockford, Illinois - After four years of determination and hard work at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford, 50 graduating students learned where they will spend the next three to six years of their medical training at Match Day, Thursday, March 20, 2008.

Match Day is a national event in which medical students from all 126 medical schools across the country hear their match results at the same time. Matching students with residency programs is a computerized process, where medical students rank their preferred residency programs, while residency programs rank their preferred applicants. Students may choose from one of 13 medical specialties, including ophthalmology, child neurology, general surgery, psychiatry, anesthesia, emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics.

Since 1972, the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford has graduated 1394 doctors, with approximately 84 graduates practicing in the Rockford area.
