Aftab Merchant, MBBS, FCPS, has joined the University of Illinois
College of Medicine Rockford as the Course Director for Anatomy
& Embryology. He is appointed to develop and deliver teaching
material on basic principles needed for the practice of clinical
medicine in anatomy and embryology. In addition, he will be
responsible for collaborating with other courses across disciplines
and campuses in the development of Phase I curriculum and
advance appropriate evaluation tools.
Dr. Merchant has over 15 years of experience teaching at professional schools. He joined us from Cleveland University – Kansas City, where he served as the Professor of Anatomy. While there, he served on numerous committees, including the Curriculum Committee, Course Outcome and Assessment Committee, Professional Conduct
Committee, and Chair of the Institutional Review Board, just to name a few. In 2015 and 2016, he received Cleveland University’s Faculty Member of the Year award. He was also recognized by the Kansas Independent College Association in 2016 to receive
their Faculty of Distinction award.
Since 2013, Dr. Merchant has served as an Associate Editor of the Biology Editorial Board for Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching (MERLOT), and remained a member of the American Association of Clinical Anatomists.
Dr. Merchant earned his MBBS from Liaquat Medical College and is a Fellow of the College of Physicians and Surgeons. He practiced Internal Medicine for several years and is a published author on a variety of medical topics.
