Biographical Info

Robert J. Hillwig, MD, is a clinical assistant professor and the new Phase 1 Pathology Course Coordinator in the Department of Health Sciences Education.

Dr. Hillwig comes to the UICOMR from the University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine where he was an associate professor of anatomy. He is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He completed two residencies in anatomic and clinical pathology at The Ohio State University Hospitals and Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, where he was chief resident and completed a fifth year in transfusion medicine. He then completed a fellowship in blood banking and transfusion medicine at The Institute for Transfusion Medicine in Pittsburgh. He is board-certified in anatomical pathology and clinical pathology as well as blood banking/transfusion medicine.
