Medicine Clerkship

Students in their M3 year will experience a 12-week medicine clerkship based at Rockford Memorial Hospital and OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. Students are assigned to a faculty preceptor and work closely with them to complete three to five patient evaluations per week. In addition, each week of the clerkship has an “organ system theme,” and small group interactive conferences are organized to further discuss topics in each area.

Experiences for M4 students in the department of medicine are designed to enhance their knowledge base in clinical medicine, learn preventive and treatment strategies for modifying the natural cause of disease, and to instill in the student the necessity for life-long learning. Studies include: four-week clerkships in advanced internal medicine, cardiology, gastroenterology, hematology/oncology, infectious disease, nephrology, neurology or pulmonology; two- and four-week electives in allergy/asthma, dermatology, nutrition, physical medicine and rehabilitation, radiology and rheumatology.
