SUMMARY:Why isn’t healthcare as safe as air travel?
DESCRIPTION:Physicians, medical staff officers, chief medical officers including all health professionals in the community and the College of Medicine Rockford students, residents and faculty are all invited to attend the lecture with Dr. Mark Chassin, president emeritus of The Joint Commission, a partner at Relia Healthcare Advisors and one of the world's leading experts in healthcare quality, patient safety and process improvement.    Purpose    The lecture's purpose is to compare healthcare with high-reliability industries such as aviation and provide evidence-based approaches that healthcare organizations and professionals can use to improve quality and patient safety.    Learning objectives     	Identify the three distinct types of healthcare and safety problems.   	Describe how industries like commercial aviation have been able to establish and maintain exemplary safety records -- near or at zero harm -- over many years.   	Articulate three proven strategies to move healthcare toward zero harm.
