Assistant Dean for Graduate Medical Education announced
Naser Khan, MD, FASGE, a clinical assistant professor in the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford Department of Medicine and Medical Specialties, is the new assistant dean for graduate medical education and the designated institutional official (DIO) responsible for compliance with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Dr. Khan is Mercyhealth’s medical director and chief of gastroenterology. He also serves as the associate DIO for the Mercyhealth Graduate Medical Education Consortium and is on the leadership team of their GI Fellowship Program.
A graduate of Deccan College of Medical Sciences, Dr. Khan completed an internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Ill., and an additional fellowship in interventional gastroenterology at St. Luke’s Pancreaticobiliary Center in Milwaukee, Wis.
Dr. Khan is a fellow of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and serves as chair of their Health and Public Policy Committee that advises lawmakers on legislation that improves access to healthcare.
“I’m delighted to have Dr. Khan take on this leadership role at the College of Medicine Rockford,” says Dean Alex Stagnaro-Green. “Dr. Khan’s experience with ACGME-accredited programs, service on our College Executive Committee and his award-winning teaching will help him hit the ground running in this role.”
UICOMR’s graduate medical education programs include the Family Medicine Residency Program, Dixon Rural Training Track, Headache Medicine Fellowship and Addiction Medicine Fellowship. Mercyhealth’s Internal Medicine Residency Program is also affiliated with UICOMR.
Dr. Khan replaces Kathleen Kelly, MD, FACP, an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Medicine and Medical Specialties, who is stepping down from the assistant dean position at the end of August. Reach Dr. Khan in Room S200F, via email at naser@uic.edu, or call 815-395-5753.
