Celebrating Excellence: 2024–2025 Surgical Scholars announced
As the Class of 2026 wrapped up their third year of medical school, the Department of Surgery and Surgical Specialities and the Office of Medical Education and Evaluation are proud to highlight a group of students who achieved exceptional academic performance during their surgery clerkship. The Surgical Scholar title reflects strong academic performance and mastery of the surgical curriculum. These students demonstrated a high level of clinical knowledge, preparation and commitment to excellence in their surgery rotation.
They are Sopuluchukwu Anidobu, Laura Berger, Cheyenne Carr, Ashley Donald, Carson Florkowski, Haripriya Koritala, Annabelle Moore, Kale Oglesby, Samuel Rogge, Luke Sclamberg, Brianna Trimble and Andy Vaewhongs.
This annual honor is based on NBME Surgery Shelf Exam scores and is awarded to the 12 highest-scoring students at UICOMR. It marks a significant academic achievement during this rigorous clinical clerkship.
In addition to receiving the Surgical Scholar title, each of these students will pay it forward by hosting NBME review sessions for the current surgery clerkship students throughout the 2025-2026 academic year. These peer-led sessions are designed to reinforce key surgical concepts, provide practical exam strategies and support collaborative learning.
We congratulate the 2024–2025 Surgical Scholars and celebrate their dedication, leadership and academic excellence.
