Distinguished Service Award presented to Dr. Alesia Jones
Alesia Jones, PhD, recieved the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford’s Distinguished Service Award during the Convocation Ceremony on Friday, April 24, 2026.
This award is presented each year to a nominee who demonstrates outstanding organization and leadership qualities in committee service, administration, health care and medical education at UICOMR, the university level and/or nationally.
Dr. Jones has been at UICOMR since 2009, and she serves as assistant dean for diversity and inclusion, an associate professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and director of behavioral science for the Family Medicine Residency Program.
She has helped foster a more inclusive and supportive campus through her work on key committees, including the college-level DEI Committee and the Pay Equity Subcommittee. She co-chaired efforts to develop a strategic roadmap for inclusion. She also actively supports student organizations, including the Disability Advocacy Coalition in Medicine, the Student National Medical Association and MedPride.
As an educator, she has strengthened training in behavioral health, trauma-informed care, and anti-racism, while mentoring students, residents and junior faculty in research that addresses pressing community health needs. She also oversees the Underrepresented in Medicine Student Research Program.
In her clinical role, Dr. Jones serves as the sole licensed clinical psychologist at UI Health Mile Square Health Center-L.P. Johnson Rockford, where she provides specialized care in trauma and domestic violence and is widely recognized at the regional and national levels.
Dr. Jones was honored for her unwavering commitment to service, advocacy and excellence in the field of medicine.
