Dr. Puri receives CFNIL grant

Dr. Neelu Puri

Dr. Neelu Puri, associate professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, has been awarded a $46,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois to advance lung cancer research and community health initiatives.

Through this funding, Dr. Puri will lead efforts to promote lung cancer screenings in underserved and high-risk communities, with the goal of improving early detection and reducing lung cancer–related mortality.

In addition to community outreach and education, the project will also focus on the development of novel tumor and blood-based biomarkers for lung cancer patients. These biomarkers have the potential to enhance early diagnosis, monitor disease progression and guide more personalized treatment strategies.

By integrating community engagement with cutting-edge biomedical research, this initiative aims to bridge gaps in lung cancer prevention, diagnosis and care, particularly among underserved rural populations that experience health disparities.
