Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship director named

Harneet Gahley, MD, a clinical assistant professor in the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford’s Department of Family and Community Medicine, is the college’s new director of the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship.

Dr. Gahley, a palliative medicine physician at UW Health in northern Illinois, received her medical degree from the American University of Antigua. She completed her family medicine residency and fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford.

The Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program, conducted in conjunction with UW Health in northern Illinois, is a one-year program focused on developing physicians with expertise in providing compassionate, patient-centered care to patients with serious or terminal illnesses.

“I am honored to return in a leadership role to the program that shaped my career,” says Dr. Gahley. “Having completed this program in 2019, it is especially meaningful to now mentor the next generation of fellows. I look forward to sharing my expertise in palliative and hospice medicine to strengthen interdisciplinary care, expand access to high-quality, compassionate services, and meaningfully improve quality of life for patients and families across our community.”
