Psychiatry faculty member receives national award
Raymond Garcia, MD, FAPA, a clinical assistant professor in the UICOMR Department of Psychiatry and a UICOMR alumnus, received a 2026 Exemplary Psychiatrist Award from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
The national honor, for which he was nominated by NAMI Northern Illinois, recognizes psychiatrists who go above and beyond in advancing mental health care through advocacy, education, and a commitment to treating the whole person. Award recipients are known for improving access to care, supporting research, and helping individuals and families better understand and navigate mental health conditions.
Dr. Garcia is chief medical officer for Rosecrance Behavioral Health, and is medical director for Rosecrance Therapies at Aspen Counseling in Rockford. He is board-certified in psychiatry, neurology and addiction medicine.
He joined the UICOMR faculty in 1998 and has received the Golden Apple Teaching Award, Mentor of the Year Award and the Distinguished Teaching Award.
