Resident honored with BEE Award by UW Health
Julia King, MD, a UICOMR alum and first-year resident in the UICOMR Family Medicine Residency Program, received the Being Extraordinary Every Day or “BEE” Award from UW Health SwedishAmerican Hospital. The award recognizes excellence among clinical support caregivers who work alongside nursing teams to deliver quality, compassionate care.
As a resident physician, Dr. King sees patients under the supervision of faculty physicians at UW Health and at UI Health Mile Square Health Center-L.P. Johnson Rockford, where the residency program is based. On Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2025, she was surprised with the award and treats to share with her colleagues by Dr. Jim Cole, UW Health’s chief medical officer.
Dr. King was nominated for the award by a patient, who says her kindness and honesty makes her extraordinary.
“She was so helpful and gave us all the time we needed,” says the nominator who, along with her husband, chose Dr. King as their primary care physician. “I haven’t been this excited for health care in a long time. If all doctors were like her, imagine the level of fear that would decrease for patients.”
Dr. King was a student in the Integrated Family Medicine Residency Program during her last year of medical school and she received extra training in family medicine before starting her residency in July.
“I’m delighted Dr. King was selected by UW Health to be the recipient of an award that physicians are rarely selected to receive,” says Dr. Rhonda Verzal, director of the Family Medicine Residency Program.
