The Department of Health Sciences Education at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford trains medical students during Phase I of the Illinois Medicine Curriculum. By integrating basic sciences with clinical applications, the curriculum for first and second-year medical students prepares them for clinical clerkships in Phase 2 of their education. Such courses as anatomy, pathology, physiology, microbiology, biochemistry and others combined with experiences in our Gross Anatomy Lab, Virtual Anatomy Lab, Simulation Center, as well as practice with standardized patients in our Clinical Skills Center, provide a solid foundation for our students before they begin their rotations in clinical settings with actual patients.
Our esteemed faculty include a team of core faculty at the UIC Health Sciences Campus-Rockford as well as community faculty at various health systems.

The Gross Anatomy Lab is where medical students explore the human body through dissection of human cadavers. The modern lab is outfitted with dissection tables, suspended and portable lighting, and a variety of anatomical models.
Virtual Anatomy Lab Heading link
Virtual Anatomy Lab
The Virtual Anatomy Lab is where medical students can prepare for and supplement their experiences with cadaveric dissection using the state-of-the-art Anatomage table, a high-resolution virtual dissection table. The Anatomage table is a fully interactive life-sized touchscreen imaging system in table form that displays detailed human anatomy systems and structures. Users are able to explore and dissect the human body in different planes and sizes, review real case studies, view digital histology slides, and observe radiological imaging all with the touch of a finger. The College of Medicine Rockford has been a leader in developing curriculum for this technology.
