Bridge Funding Award for Faculty
Bridge funding is intended to provide short-term financial support to sustain the research programs, laboratories and momentum of productive researchers during funding gaps to give them a chance to regain extramural funding. Bridge funding is targeted to all members of the faculty of the College of Medicine Rockford who have established projects that demonstrate high probability of securing extramural funding. One $10,000 grant is awarded annually.

Clinical, Educational & Community Health Research Grant
The purpose of the Clinical, Educational and Community Health Research Grant is to provide funding for research that improves healthcare delivery or expands the body of knowledge in an area of clinical research, educational research, and/or improves health in the community. The types of projects sought are those that will provide the foundation for development of larger grants and/or develop, enhance, or expand clinical, educational, or community research. Two faculty awards of up to $5,000 are awarded annually.

Resident Research Travel Award
The Resident Research Travel Award is awarded to a resident who is presenting as a first author at a national conference. Up to $500 for residents in reimbursement for conference registration and travel expenses is awarded.
Writing Accountability Groups (WAGs)
For faculty and academic researchers, publishing papers and writing grants can be important for their careers, but making time to do it can be a challenge. Writing Accountability Groups (WAG) can provide support and accountability that will increase writing productivity in groups of academic researchers on campus. WAG groups meet one time weekly for 60-90 minutes depending on the group. Currently, the Office of Research hosts a WAG group for individuals working on grant applications and a WAG group for individuals working on manuscripts/publications. Each session consists of:
- 10-15 minute check-in with sharing of accomplishments, barriers and brainstorming solutions from the previous week
- 45 minutes of writing
- 5 minutes of setting goals for the next week

Junior Faculty and Postdoc (JFPD) Club
The Office of Research hosts the bi-monthly JFPD Club for UICOMR Junior Faculty and Post-Docs. The group is facilitated by two junior faculty from the Rockford campus. For more information about joining the group, please contact Vicki Weidenbacher-Hoper at email@example.com.
The Office of Research hosts periodic presentations on a variety of research topics. The presentations have been recorded and are accessible through the campus YouTube channel.

Cindy Veldhuis, PhD, MS, is a research psychologist at the Columbia University School of Nursing whose research is funded by an NIH K99/R00. UIC Research Open Access Article Publishing (ROAAP) Fund
The UIC Research Open Access Publishing Fund supports faculty, researchers, staff, post-docs, and students who want to make their journal articles free to all readers immediately upon publication, but are not supported by grants or contracts with funds to help cover open access or paid access publishing fees. The ROAAP fund provides financial support towards open access fees in open access journals.
