Optimizing the Clinical Learning Environment – Helping Instructors Avoid Learner Complaints and Concerns

Purpose: To improve the effectiveness of clinical teaching

Target Audience: UICOMR faculty members and volunteers who teach medical students, residents, fellows, pharmacy students and other health care professionals.

Learning Objectives:

After completion of the activity, participants should be able to

  1. Summarize, review and explain the UICOM Positive Learning Environment Policy and how it applies to instructors.
  2. Offer complaint prevention strategies for instructors, focusing on the KIND framework.
  3. Illustrate and review how to respond to, report on or get consultations about concerns instructors have about students or the learning environment.
