Stephanie Calato, MS, has been named assistant dean for student affairs at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford.
Dean Calato served as the UICOMR director of student affairs-career services since 2015. In that role, she built a longitudinal, career advising program to foster medical student success in navigating the competitive residency application process. In addition, she is a clinical associate in the Department of Health Sciences Education.
“Following a national search, we found the best candidate right here and we are excited about Stephanie Calato moving into this senior leadership role,” says Alex Stagnaro-Green, UICOMR dean. “We thank Stephanie Williams, director of student affairs-academic skills, for her leadership during the transition, and look forward to the continued exceptional service our Office of Student Affairs provides to our medical students.”
Dean Calato, a Rockford native, has a bachelor’s degree in political science from Northern Illinois University and a master’s degree in human services/counseling from National Louis University. She has been a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in clinical and academic settings, including Rockford Christian Schools and in private practice over the past 17 years.
“I am delighted to take on this new leadership role with exceptionally bright and talented medical students and a dedicated team of co-workers at the College of Medicine,” says Dean Calato. “Rockford is incredibly fortunate to have the college that is so deeply invested in our community.”
