Dr. Geraldine Fox Receives Distinguished Teaching Award
The University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford presented its 2021 Distinguished Teaching Award to Geri Fox, MD, MHPE, FAACAP. Each year, this award is presented to a College of Medicine Rockford faculty member who has demonstrated a long-standing history of outstanding interest in our medical students.
Dr. Fox has been a professor of clinical psychiatry at the College of Medicine Chicago campus since 2004. She is also associate dean for wellness and resilience for all four College of Medicine campuses and was previously assistant dean of graduate medical education, director for child and adolescent psychiatry training and an adjunct professor of medical education at the Chicago campus. She joined the Rockford faculty in 2018 as chair of the Department of Psychiatry and director of psychiatry undergraduate medical education.
According to her nominator, “Dr. Fox teaches and serves the students on the Rockford campus, using her longstanding and continuing experience in undergraduate and graduate medical education on the Chicago campus to expand and build the connections between Chicago and Rockford, and the greater community of educators in Illinois. Her impact as an accomplished, dedicated, and award-winning clinician educator continues to benefit the next generation of physicians.”
Dr. Fox has been committed not only to teaching medical students and helping them by providing career advice, she has also been focused on ensuring medical students have rotations with other physicians that help them see many aspects of psychiatry.
“An inspiration to our next generation of physicians, Dr. Fox is so very deserving of the Distinguished Teaching Award,” says Alex Stagnaro-Green, MD, MHPE, MHA, dean of the College of Medicine Rockford.
