Dr. Li receives UIC Chancellor’s Translational Research Initiative Award

Xue-jun Li, PhD

Xue-jun Li, PhD, is the recipient of a 2024 Chancellor’s Translational Research Initiative Award to support her research into the efficacy of small molecule compounds in rescuing nerve degeneration.

The Chancellor’s Translational Research Initiative provides up to $25,000 to help prepare early-stage projects for licensing and startup opportunities. Successful completion of the CTRI program prepares projects for future funding opportunities that support commercialization and increases the likelihood of a project receiving funding through the Proof of Concept Awards Program. The program is managed in partnership with the Office of Technology Management and supported through the UIC Innovation Fund.

Dr. Li is one of 10 CTRI awardees this year. She is the Michael A. Werckle Professor of Biomedical Sciences and co-director of the UICOMR Regenerative Medicine and Disability Laboratory in the UICOMR Department of Biomedical Sciences.
