Dr. MacDowell receives emeritus status

Martin MacDowell, DrPH

Martin MacDowell, DrPH, is now a University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford research professor emeritus of family and community medicine.

Dr. MacDowell joined the UICOLMR faculty in September 2002 as assistant director of curricular development in the National Center for Rural Health Professions, a visiting research associate professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and faculty affiliate in the Depai1ment of Pharmacy Administration. Throughout his 22-year tenure at UICOMR, he has been an innovative leader, educator and researcher in the NCRHP, as well as a driving force in interprofessional education between the College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy and College of Nursing.

As a senior member of the NCRHP, Dr. MacDowell’s key roles were in program and curriculum development, teaching, and evaluation of our Rural Medical Education (RMED) Program and was instrumental in using this model to create similar rural education programs for the College of Pharmacy in Rockford and the College of Nursing. He retired in January 2022.
