Dr. Mary Jo Ironside Receives Distinguished Teaching Award Heading link
The University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford presented its 2020 Distinguished Teaching Award to Mary Jo Ironside, MD.
“Dr. Ironside has demonstrated a strong commitment to medical education in family medicine and obstetrics and has a longstanding history of outstanding interest in our medical students and residents,” says Alex Stagnaro-Green, UICOMR dean.
Dr. Ironside is an assistant professor of clinical family medicine and has been on the UICOMR faculty since 1986. A graduate of the University of Iowa Medical School, she completed her residency at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford and, in 2012 after many years in private practice, became a core faculty member of the residency program from which she graduated and is now is an attending physician at the UI Health Mile Square Health Center – L.P. Johnson Rockford.
Her nominators for the award note that she is an extremely effective and appreciated clinical teacher for medical students and residents and many consider her a role model. She has received prior recognition for her outstanding level of commitment to patient care and education, receiving several Golden Apple Teaching Awards and residency Faculty of the Year awards.
