Medical student receives grant for lung cancer research

lung cancer research

Second-year UICOMR medical student Dalton Rogers received a Clinical, Educational and Community Health Research (CECHR) Grant Award from the UICOMR Office of Research. This grant is awarded for research that helps promote the interconnection between clinical practice, education and community health.

His research mentor is Neelu Puri, PhD, an associate professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences. His project aims to promote low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening for lung cancer and the development of tumor biomarkers to help in the early detection of lung cancer. The overall goal of the project is to improve the survivability and prognosis of lung cancer patients in Northern Illinois by reaching rural areas that have lower survival rates.
