Mark Gridley, MBA, FACHE, president and CEO of FHN, in Freeport, visited the Medical Evaluation Response Initiative Team (MERIT) on Monday with a carload of donations for suspected abused and neglected children.
Gridley made the drive from Freeport to MERIT’s Rockford office with donations received from the FHN Foundation, which raises awareness, increases support and helps improve the Freeport community.
The donations MERIT received included National Geographic books, Legos, gowns, costumes and stuffed animals, among plenty of other items that’ll put a much-needed smile on a child’s face.
“These kids aren’t in the best circumstances, so if there’s anything that we can do to make their day better, we want to do that,” Gridley says to the MERIT staff.
A child-centered, community-based program, MERIT is dedicated to providing all children suspected of being physically or sexually abused or neglected with timely, expert medical evaluations and treatment. MERIT also serves the community as a resource for prevention, research and education.
“I’m overwhelmed and so excited to receive these donations,” says Shannon Krueger, MSN, APRN, CPNP-PC, SANE-P, MERIT director. “I can’t wait to give these donations to our patients.”
