Physicians Receive Residency Teaching Awards
Several physicians received 2018 teaching awards from the Family Medicine Residency Program of the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford.
Resident physician Medha Chunduru, MD, presented the 2018 Outstanding Community Preceptor Award to Sameer Ansar, MD, at the June 30 residency graduation ceremony at Forest Hills Country Club.
Sameer Ansar, MD, an endocrinologist, diabetes and metabolism specialist, and hospitalist at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, received the Community Teacher of the Year Award as voted upon by all residents in the program. Dr. Ansar is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Medicine and Medical Specialties at the College of Medicine Rockford.
Mary Jo Ironside, MD, and Kenton Lee, MD, were named L.P. Johnson Family Health Center Faculty Physicians of the Year by the residents in all three years of the program. Both Dr. Ironside and Dr. Lee are graduates of the College of Medicine Rockford Family Medicine Residency Program and, as assistant professors of clinical family medicine, are core faculty members of the College of Medicine Rockford Family Medicine Residency Program helping to train the next generation of physicians at the UI Health L.P. Johnson Family Health Center, 1221 State St.
Resident physicians Drs. Jason Ziegler and Zena Alyashae presented the Faculty Physician of the Year award to both Dr. Mary Jo Ironside and Dr. Kenton Lee.
James Cole, DO, a surgeon at SwedishAmerican, was selected as the Outstanding Rotation Attending Physician Award recipient by the first-year family medicine residents. Dr. Cole is board-certified in general surgery and neuro-critical care and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Pradeep Raju, MD, is a primary care sports medicine physician with OrthoIllinois. He was selected by the third-year residents as Outstanding Rotation Attending Physician. He is board-certified in family medicine and completed a fellowship in primary care sports medicine at Wright State University.
Resident physician Jason Ziegler, MD, presented the Outstanding Rotation Attending Physician Award from the second-year residents to Geoffrey Tsaras, MD.
Geoffrey Tsaras, MD, an infectious disease specialist at SwedishAmerican and a College of Medicine Rockford assistant professor of clinical medicine, received the Outstanding Rotation Attending Physician Award from the second-year residents. Dr. Tsaras is board-certified in infectious disease.
