Research Day Award Winners Announced
Eighty-three posters were presented by medical, nursing, medical biotechnology and pharmacy students covering a wide array of impressive health sciences research. Congratulations to all the award winners from Research Day 2018.
The Best Basic Science Research Poster Award sponsored by the Department of Biomedical Sciences and presented by Dr. Ramaswamy Kalyanasundaram for excellence in basic science research went to Nalini Bisht for her poster entitiled Brugia Malayi Recombinant Cystatin Ameliorates Development of Murine Colitis By Induction of IL-10+ T-regulatory Cells and IL-10+ B1-cells.
The Best Basic Science Research Poster Award sponsored by Thermo Fisher Scientific and presented by Dr. Penny Jensen for basic research in health related sciences went to Shruti Salunkhe for her poster entitled The Effect of Differentially Modulated Macrophages on Cell Assisted Corrosion (CAC) of CoCrMo Alloy: Hip Implant Application.
The Best Case Report Award sponsored by
Rockford Anesthesiologists Associated and presented by Dr. Sherry Falsetti for demonstratimg unique aspects of medical or surgical clinical case and providing clear clinical and/or educational significance was presented to Kristen Koniewicz for her poster entitled Bicornuate Vicollis Uterus with Obstruction of the Lower Uterine Segment and Cervical Prolapse Complicating Pregnancy.
The Best Clinical Research Poster Award sponsored by Rockford Ambulatory Surgery Center for excellence in clinical research and presented by Dr. Sherry Falsetti went to Pruthvi Kothari for her poster entitled A Clinical Comparison of Visual Outcomes for Tecnis Multifocal +2.75 (ZKB00) and ReSTOR Multifocal +3.00 (SN6AD1).
The James Scholar Award sponsored by the James Scholar Program for high-quality basic science, clinical research, social science, or other health related sciences was presented by Dr. Sherry Falsetti to Tiger Onsen for his poster entitled Postoperative Day One Discharge Following Elective Shoulder Arthroplasty.
The Best MBT Student Research Poster Award sponsored by the Master of Science in Medical Biotechnology Program and Department of Biomedical Sciences for excellence in basic research was awarded to Abhijith Segu for his poster Cellular and Molecular Mechanism of Neuronal Damage Induced by CoCrMo Degradation Products.
A Best Student Technical Poster Award sponsored by the Winnebago County Medical Society for research and a research presentation demonstrating quality was presented to Amanda Johnson by Dr. Mitch King for her research entitled Biological Assessment of a Putative Disease-Causing Mutation in Topoisomerase 2Beta.
Another Best Student Technical Poster Award from the Winnebago County Medical Society was presented to Hillary Hayssen by Dr. King for her poster entitled A Novel Closed-Loop Autologous Fat Grafting Technique for Breast Reconstruction.
The CCTS Best Clinical-Translational Research Poster Award sponsored by the UIC Center for Clinical and Translational Science, was awarded to Jessica Roche and Dawna McMillan by Dr. Inis Bardella for their poster entitled Sedation Vacation: Policy Implementation and Decreasing Ventilator Days in Critical Care Patients.
The CCTS Best Community-Translational Research Poster Award from the UIC Center for Clinical and Translational Science went to Robert Freidel for his poster entitled An Investigative Analysis of Social and Economic
Factors Impacting Health in Rockford.
The College of Pharmacy Outstanding Poster Award for basic science research was presented to Jay Anand by Dr. John Nitiss for his poster Repair of Top2-mediated DNA Damage by DNA Polymerase Beta.
The Dean’s Action Council Award sponsored by the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford's Dean's Action Council for a poster that best highlights the impact of the College of Medicine on the Rockford area was presented to Robert Freidel by Dr. King for his poster An Investigative Analysis of Social and Economic Factors Impacting Health in Rockford.
The Innovation in Basic Science Research Award from the Office of the Regional Dean of the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford for a innovative and creative basic research project in health-related sciences was presented to Anjali Panicker by Dr. King for her poster entitled A Tolerogenic Adjuvant for Inducing Antigen-Specific Immunosuppression.
The NCRHP Poster Award for Encouraging Excellence in Rural Health sponsored by the National Center for Rural Health Professions for high-quality rural health and rural health disparities research was awarded to Caitlin Walker by Vicky Rhine for the poster entitled Family Life Coaching: An Intervention With Teenage Students in Montgomery County, IL.
The Sister Mary Linus Nowak Research Award from Saint Anthony College of Nursing for furthering the application of research in the nursing profession went to Ann Mary Ligman-Schliem for her ACCESS Project.
The Supporting Model Public Health Practices – Research Award sponsored by the Winnebago County Health Department and its Board of Health for research that expands the evidence-base for public health practice went to Dyllan Tiburzi (center) and Bradley Killmer for their poster entitled Effects of Extended Recess for Elementary School-Aged Children with ADHD. Presenting the award is Luci Hoover (left) of the Board of Health and Dr. Sandra Martell (right) from the Winnebago County Health Deparment.
