Research Day is April 27
Research Day will be held on Friday, April 27, at the UIC Health Sciences Campus-Rockford, 1601 Parkview Ave. This is the twenty-third annual event held on the campus to showcase health sciences research. It is free and open to the public.
This year’s line-up includes a keynote address on chronic disease prevention, a panel discussion on changing the trajectory of chronic disease, presentations by student researchers and the opportunity to meet student researchers during a poster viewing session.
The event kicks off at 9 a.m. with a welcome address followed by a keynote address on chronic disease prevention presented by Dr. Wayne Giles, dean of the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health in the Robert J. Vickrey MD Auditorium.
A panel discussion begins at 11 a.m. entitled “Turning the Tide: How Do We Change the Trajectory of Chronic Disease?” featuring Dr. Joan Briller, director of the Heart Disease in Women Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago; Dr. Spyros Kitsiou, assistant professor of biomedical and health information sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago; Dr. Jun Ma, director of the Center for Health Behavior Research in the Institute for Health Research and Policy at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Dr. Stephen Nitz of Integrative Medical Associates of Rockford.
About 85 student researchers from the Colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing, as well as a few students from other schools and faculty members, will be presenting their research through poster displays in the Partners’ Pavilion and Commons from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Beginning at 2:15 p.m., selected students will give oral presentations in the auditorium, followed by the presentation of awards to students for outstanding research projects.
