Rockford Ready conducts town hall meetings on health literacy with community residents

The University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford is a partner of Rockford Ready , an initiative aimed at addressing health literacy, COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy, and mistrust of the health care system among Black/African American and Hispanic/Latinx populations residing in three ZIP Code areas of Rockford (61101, 61102, and 61104).

It is led by the City of Rockford Health and Human Services Department in partnership with the UICOMR Department of Family and Community Medicine’s Division of Health Research and Evaluation, the University of Illinois College of Medicine Chicago’s Office of Health Literacy, CURA Strategies and community leaders. The program is supported by the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health/Office of Minority Health of the US Department of Health and Human Services.

A team of researchers including Dr. Manorama Khare, Vicki Weidenbacher-Hoper, Emily Orr and Chloe Ford from the Department of Family and Community Medicine Division of Health Research and Evaluation lead the evaluation for this project.

Rockford Ready, which started in 2021, is hosting three townhall meetings to provide an opportunity for Rockford residents to learn about the health literacy initiative and to engage with community leaders and partners.
