A team of researchers from the Regenerative Medicine and Disability Laboratory in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford (UICOMR), working under the supervision of Mathew Mathew Thoppil, PhD, the Cedric W. Blazer Endowed Professor of Biomedical Sciences and director of faculty research in the Office of Research, attended the Orthopaedic Research Society 2025 Annual Meeting held Feb. 7-11, 2025, in Phoenix, Ariz.
The team presented their work on various divisions, which included 3D-printed implants, implant-derived toxicity studies, cell-accelerated corrosion studies, clinically retrieved implant studies and biosensors to detect metal ions.
Team members included Mathew Thoppil, PhD (PI), Mareeswari Paramasivan, PhD, postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Katherine D’Sylva, MBT student, Marzieh Ebrahimi, a visiting researcher in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Puranjay Gupta, a former summer intern in the Department of Biomedical Sciences Summer Medical Research Training (SMaRT) Program, Vanaja Narayanaswamy, MBT student, Will Reiser, second-year medical student, Mwangi Wamaina, fourth-year medical student, and Amanda Weis, second-year medical student.
