Welcome Dr. Chastain

College of Medicine at Rockford Welcomes Dr. Paul Chastain
The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford is pleased to announce that Paul Chastain, PhD, will join the faculty as Course Director of Biochemistry. Dr. Chastain received his PhD in biochemistry and biophysics from Texas A&M University and most recently served as Assistant Biomedical Sciences Professor at the College of Osteopathic Medicine, William Carey University and Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina.

“Dr. Chastain’s research and teaching experience will provide a strong foundation in his new role as our course director in biochemistry,” said Alex Stagnaro-Green, MD, MHPE, Dean of the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford. “We are excited to have him join our faculty and lead our efforts in this area.”

While serving as a student research advisor and grant reviewer, Dr. Chastain also received research funding for his work on “Holistic Investigation of Biotinidase Deficiency in Mississippi,” “Interrelationship Between AD and Virus Infection,” and numerous other projects. Additionally, he has been involved in public health initiatives and community projects relating to breast cancer awareness, palliative care for cancer patients and caregivers, and biotinidase deficiency awareness. Well-published, he also is a manuscript reviewer for Nature, The Chemist, and Oncotarget. A member of the American Osteopathic Association and the Mississippi Academy of Science, Dr. Chastain is the 2015 Researcher of the Year at William Carey University and has received numerous other awards and honors.

Since 1972, the College of Medicine at Rockford has focused on building an academic medical institution committed to education, research and innovation, and clinical service in the surrounding communities. The College has become a center for internationally recognized research efforts funded through grants awarded by government agencies, private foundations and other resources. Today, the University of Illinois Rockford Campus is a regional health sciences center, home to the College of Pharmacy program, the College of Nursing advanced degree program, the master's in medical biotechnology program, a public health certificate and Health Systems Research.
