Welcome Dr. Sam Pope
University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford Welcomes Sam Pope
Samuel Pope, PhD, JD, has joined the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford as a research associate professor. Interested in curriculum development and integration with the clinical sciences, he will work collaboratively with like-minded and talented individuals across the University of Illinois College of Medicine campuses. Dr. Pope joins us from the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine where he served as associate professor of microbiology and immunology and chair of their Institutional Review Board Biomedical Sciences Subcommittee. Dr. Pope is a member of several organizations: the American Society of Microbiology –actively attending the Biothreats: Research, Response, and Policy meeting; the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology -serving on the Vaccines & Biological Threats Committee; and the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles. Dr. Pope received his PhD from the University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine, Department of Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry and Microbiology. He also has a JD from the University of Cincinnati, College of Law and a BA in Microbiology from Miami University. He enjoys hiking, mountain biking, and is a former player and fan of the United States Australia Football League (USAFL), a non-profit amateur sports organization dedicated to the development of and participation in Australian Rules football in the United States. The USAFL is a grassroots, amateur sports organization dedicated to the development of and participation in Australian football.
