Winnebago County Community Mental Health Board (WCCMHB) has awarded the Department of Family and Community Medicine, University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford (UICOMR) $320,293.26 to develop a new Addiction Medicine Fellowship program for primary care physicians. The program, called Clinical Learning and Education in AddicitioN (CLEAN), will provide advanced fellowship training for primary care physicians in the treatment of addiction and mental health conditions for adults and children in Winnebago County.
“The need is great for addiction medicine services in Winnebago County with the highest rate of overdose among all counties in the state. We are deeply appreciative for the support of the Winnebago County Community Mental Health Board and their foresight to address major health issues of our community,” says Joseph Garry, MD, chair of the department of family and community medicine at UICOMR. “With this funding, we can continue to make a positive impact on the lives of our Winnebago County citizens who require mental health and behavioral health services.”
As a funded partner of the WCCMHB, the UICOMR Department of Family and Community Medicine joins an integrated network of programs that share a commitment to providing quality mental health and substance use services and programs to the children and adults of Winnebago County. WCCMHB invests in local nonprofits and governmental entities that provide mental health services and substance use treatment in Winnebago County through a voter-approved half-cent sales tax.
