Winnebago County Medical Society Receives Distinguished Community Award

Tiffanie Ferry WCMS 2018 Community Award

Dr. Tiffanie Ferry, vice-president of the Winnebago County Medical Society, accepted the 2018 Distinguished Community Award from the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford from Dean Alex Stagnaro-Green at the May 11 Convocation Ceremony.

The University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford presented its 2018 Distinguished Community Award to the Winnebago County Medical Society during its May 11 convocation ceremony.

The Distinguished Community Award goes to a nominee that enhances the stature or growth of the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford with contributions of a special nature.

The Winnebago County Medical Society was selected for consistently being an advocate for the College of Medicine, supporting the medical students and collaborating on initiatives.

Founded in 1846 as the Rockford Medical Association, the Winnebago County Medical Society was organized in 1881 and chartered by the Illinois State Medical Society in 1903. Today it has a membership of 350 physicians representing every specialty of medicine who focus on issues that impact their profession and the health of the community.

By providing funding for the college’s White Coat Ceremony, the WCMS helps the medical students as they start out their medical careers and they often are a willing partner in other initiatives, including Research Day. The WCMS provides leadership experiences, guidance and information about how organized medicine affects physicians to the medical students through student organizations and by inviting students to attend their events.

The WCMS membership includes many alumni and faculty of the College of Medicine who often encourage new physicians to the area to consider joining the faculty of the College of Medicine, which helps the college provide clinical experiences for the students.

Accepting the award on behalf of the Winnebago County Medical Society was vice-president of the board Dr. Tiffanie Ferry. Ferry is also a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford.
