Rockford, Ill. – University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford (UICOMR) welcomes Weihai Zhan, Ph.D., M.S., as director of student research. His first day was Aug. 1.
Zhan, who’ll be working in the Office of Research, will coordinate the development and conduct of student research at UICOMR. He’ll also provide statistical support to faculty and students who are conducting research.
Zhan received his Ph.D. in population health sciences with a concentration in epidemiology and a Master of Science degree in population health sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine degree in preventive medicine from Shanghai Medical University, now Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University, in Shanghai, China. Zhan conducted his postdoctoral training at Yale School of Public Health.
“Dr. Zhan brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to UICOMR,” says Dean Alex Stagnaro-Green. “We’re thrilled to welcome him to the college and we know he’ll be an asset to the Office of Research.”
Before coming to UICOMR, Zhan spent nearly a decade as a statistician in the Department of Children and Families in Hartford, Conn. In that role, he developed and designed research projects, provided consulting services and technical assistance and mentored interns from local colleges and universities, among other duties.
In addition to writing more than 20 peer-reviewed publications and hosting invited talks on Pi Day, he also served as the Principal Investigator for the first statewide Foster Home Quality and Satisfaction Survey.
