Since 1971, UICOMR has relied on hundreds of area physicians to carry out our community-based medical training. There are no better instructors or educators for our students than our clinically active community-based faculty. A variety of opportunities exists for local providers interested in teaching the next generation.
Faculty ranks are determined by the highest degree attained, board certification, and prior teaching service. Ranks can include:
- Clinical associate
- Instructor
- Assistant professor
- Associate professor
- Professor
These appointments provide the following benefits:

- Access to the Glenn Netto Health and Wellness Center on campus
- Ability to earn Continuing Medical Education credits for your teaching
- Opportunities to pursue research grants and projects.

This year, faculty in all tracks will use the same form for developing their dossier.
Versions of older forms must not be used for the 2024-25 cycle, as there have been significant modifications to the forms and related policies.
The Scholars for Teaching Excellence Faculty Fellowship (STEFF) is an interprofessional, longitudinal faculty development program. Each fall semester, 12-18 faculty from the College of Dentistry, College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy, and other health professions programs across UIC participate in weekly sessions. During these sessions, participants discuss teaching and explore literature and best practices. You can find more information about the program here.

A teaching philosophy statement and a letter of support from the Department Head must accompany applications.
Sessions take place each Tuesday -Aug 27-Dec 10th, from 1:30-4:30pm via zoom. Applications are due July 15th, 2024.
