The University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford welcomes Kate Stankiewicz, MD, as the newest fellow in the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program.

Dr. Stankiewicz earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and environmental studies from Dartmouth College. She is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Wisconsin. She’s been an anesthesiologist at the University of Chicago and most recently at Mercyhealth in Rockford.

The Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program started in 2018 and is conducted in association with SwedishAmerican Health System. The one-year program, accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, accepts one physician each year to develop expertise in this subspecialty that focuses on symptom management, relief of suffering and end-of-life care. The program has a rural focus and helps the fellow develop expertise in the fundamentals of patient care, medical knowledge, communication skills, professionalism, systems-based practice, and practice-based learning and improvement.
