Teaching positions:
Assistant Professor, West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.
Assistant Professor, Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine. Accomplishments - he helped plan and implement a new curriculum for microbiology and headed the revision of the college IRB.
Associate Professor, Marian University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Indianapolis, Accomplishments - he helped develop the curriculum from scratch and coordinated the Dermatology, Immunology Skeletal Muscle, Orthopedics systems course. He was also the chair of the Biomedical Sciences subcommittee of the IRB and a member of the student promotions committee.
Academic interests:
- The effect of Toxoplasma infection on the production and contents of extracellular vesicles by infected cells.
- Reducing the impact of the release of biologic weapons.
- Examination of an apparent association of Helicobacter pylori infection and increased incidence of autoimmune diseases. He is an active in disaster response and a member of the Medical Reserve Corps.
He is also an active member on the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology’s Vaccines Committee, and the Cells and Mediators of Inflammation Committee.
On a personal note, Dr. Pope is a lover of the outdoors and enjoys mountain biking, hiking, and kayaking with his family.
Education
Undergraduate degree: Bachelor of Arts (BA), Miami University, OH –Microbiology major.
Graduate degrees: Doctor of Juris prudence (JD), the University of Cincinnati. After 5 years of practicing law.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from University of Cincinnati in the department of molecular genetics, microbiology, and immunology. Thesis project: Function of Eotaxin-2 in the development of asthma associated lung eosinophilia.
