Research Day 2019 Award Winners Announced

Ninety-four posters were presented by medical, nursing, medical biotechnology and pharmacy students covering a wide array of impressive health sciences research. Congratulations to all the award winners from Research Day 2019.

 

The Dean’s Action Council Award supported by the Office of the Regional Dean and presented by Elise Cadigan and Mark and Monica Clodius went to Alexis Llamas for her poster entitled Are We Good Leaders? Medical Student Led Mentorship Initiative.

The Best Basic Science Research Poster supported by the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford Department of Biomedical Sciences and presented by Dr. Khalifah went to Sukhada Mukte for her poster entitled Modeling Cerebrotendinous Xanthomatosis Using Patient-Specific Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells.

The Best MBT Student Research Poster Award supported by the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford MBT Department went to Rajini Nagaraj for her poster entitled Anti-angiogenic Peptide Conjugated PEG-b-PPS-Miceller Delivery System to Prevent αvβ3 Integrin Mediated Angiogenesis.

The Best Basic Science Research Poster Award supported by Thermo Fisher Scientific and presented by Prem Nandhikonda went to Priyadarshini Shanthi for her poster entitled Evaluating the Therapeutic Effects of Methylene Blue Against Prostate Cancer.

The Best Case Report Award supported by Rockford Anesthesiologists Associated and presented by Dr. Sherry Falsetti went to Michael Foster for his poster entitled Splenic Rupture Upon the Cessation of Ibrutinib Therapy.

The Best Clinical Research Poster supported by Rockford Ambulatory Surgery Center and presented by Dr. Sherry Falsetti went to Murad Alqadi for his poster entitled Myoelectric Computer Interface Training for Reducing Abnormal Co-Activation and Enhancing Arm Movement in Chronic Stroke Survivors: A Randomized Trial.

The James Scholar Award supported by the James Scholar committee and presented by Dr. Sherry Falsetti went to Mary Beth Lyvers for her poster entitled Retrieval Analysis of Total Hip Replacements: Corrosion-Induced Failures.

The 1st Place: Best Student Technical Poster Award supported by the Winnebago County Medical Society and presented by Dr. Mitch King went to Murad Alqadi for his poster entitled Myoelectric Computer Interface Training for Reducing Abnormal Co-Activation and Enhancing Arm Movement in Chronic Stroke Survivors: A Randomized Trial.

The Best Use of Literature in a Student Research Project supported by the Crawford Library of the Health Sciences-Rockford and presented by Felicia Barrett went to Allison Mengel for her poster entitled Warfarin Management Protocol in a Rural Hospital.

The CCTS Best Clinical-Translational Research Poster Award supported by the Center for Clinical and Translational Science, UIC and presented by Dr. Alex Stagnaro-Green went to Bryan Zobeck for his poster entitled Anticoagulation Quality in a Rural Pharmacist-Led Anticoagulation Clinic Compared with Standard Care.

The CCTS Best Community-Translational Research Poster Award supported by the Center for Clinical and Translational Science, UIC and presented by Dr. Alex Stagnaro-Green went to Corey Hazekamp for his poster entitled the Relationship Between Eviction and Health Outcomes in Rockford, IL.

The College of Pharmacy Outstanding Poster supported by the University of Illinois Chicago College of Pharmacy at Rockford and presented by Dr. John Nitiss went to Hannah Miles for her poster entitled Characterization of a Novel Human Topoisomerase IIβ Mutant.

The NCRHP Poster Award for Encouraging Excellence in Rural Health supported by the National Center for Rural Health Professions and presented by Jeffrey Beichner went to Nicole Tobin for her poster entitled Evaluating Effectiveness of Opioid Education and Naloxone Training in Rural Henry County.

The Sister Mary Linus Nowak Research Award supported by St. Anthony College of Nursing and presented by Brandy Messer went to Mary Verdun for her poster entitled Depression and Caregiver Burden Among Caregivers of Stroke Survivors.

The Supporting Model Public Health Practices Research Award, supported by the Winnebago County Department of Public Health Board of Directors and presented by Dr. Sandra Martell went to Corey Hazecamp for his poster entitled Relationship Between Eviction and Health Outcomes in Rockford, IL.
