The Department of Family and Community Medicine, with about 20 full-time paid faculty and 205 volunteer faculty, is a diverse, interprofessional team dedicated to research, education, patient care and service. We strive to provide a supportive environment to facilitate the development of
- faculty skills in teaching;
- instructional design and curriculum development;
- scholarly activity including writing, conducting research, presenting at conferences, etc.;
- leadership, administration, and organizational development; and
- personal and professional development.
Faculty Development Programs/Services
- Continuing Medical Education — Available online through live Zoom or WebEx Continuing Medical Education programs. These programs can be accessed through the UIC College of Medicine Office of Continuing Medical Education website.
- Community Preceptor Newsletter — This newsletter provides quarterly updates in the Department, the Family Medicine clerkship rotation, and occasional teaching tips.

Community Faculty Appointments
Since 1971, UICOMR has relied on hundreds of area physicians to carry out our community-based medical training. There are no better instructors or educators for our students than our clinically active community-based faculty. A variety of opportunities exists for local providers interested in teaching the next generation.
Faculty ranks are determined by the highest degree attained, board certification, and prior teaching service. Ranks can include:
- Clinical associate
- Assistant professor
- Associate professor
Community faculty appointments provide the following benefits:
