The University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford Urban Health Program held its annual Diversity and Leadership in Medicine awards ceremony on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Lucha Cantina, in Rockford.

Students and alumni are recognized for excellence in leadership and distinguished service to the community at the ceremony. The recipients serve as a source of pride and inspiration to others by giving unselfishly of themselves in order to enhance and make the University of Illinois College of Medicine a better place for all.

This year’s award recipients are as follows:

  • The COM-UHP Student Servant Leadership Award: Sydni White, M4
  • Student Excellence Award for Leadership and Service: Janay Taylor, M2; Sopulu Anidobu, M2
  • Susan La Flesche Picotte, MD, Health Equity Pioneer Award: Bella Swan, M2; Carmenisha Ward, M3
  • Jose Celso Barbosa, MD, Outstanding Scholar Award: Alejandra Diaz, M4
  • Héctor Pérez García, MD, Social Justice Award:
