The University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford Family Medicine Residency Program provides each resident the benefit of unopposed clinical experiences, exceptional opportunities for obstetrical care and innovative educational programming through multidisciplinary techniques. Through the UI Health Mile Square Health Center – L.P. Johnson Rockford, the award-winning UW Health SwedishAmerican Hospital and other affiliated community health care partners, the Rockford Family Medicine Residency Program provides outstanding graduate medical education. Since the program began in Rockford in 1972, more than 420 family medicine residents have been trained through the program who now practice family medicine and various subspecialties in Rockford, throughout Illinois, across the nation and around the world. How to Apply Heading link

All applications to the program must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). The deadline is December 2; however, early submission is encouraged.

STRETCH–OB is a track within our Family Medicine Residency Program for residents who are committed to providing obstetrics in a rural or underserved community.

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • We encourage the application of highly competitive applicants who have excelled throughout their medical school training.
  • Medical school graduation within one year of start date or recent clinical activity in the practice of medicine
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation (Recommend 1-2 letters from Family Medicine physicians, including the Department Head, Program Director, or Clerkship Director)

These criteria are simply the requirements needed for your application to be reviewed; they do not guarantee an interview. Interviews will be granted upon further review of the application and all of its contents.

We will contact you if we wish to schedule an interview. Interviews will take place from late October through January. We also sponsor J1 visas.
