M1 Year (Phase 1)

The Phase 1 curriculum is an integrated curriculum divided into organ system blocks. While students learn about basic structure and function, mechanisms of disease, and disease treatment, they also develop clinical practice skills and are exposed to related topics in Health Care Systems and Health, Illness, and Society.  At the end of each block, students experience a synthesis week intended to allow students to reflect on their learning, to synthesize concepts and to explore wellness, professional identity, and careers.  Throughout Phase 1, students experience a variety of learning methods including team based learning and independent study.  Although much of the learning occurs in the classroom,  clinical activities and simulation are incorporated as well.
